»Families
have fun at PTA school night
The first-ever PTA
Take Your Family to School Night was a huge success. On Feb.
17, many ASK students brought their families to school for
an interactive evening of educational fun. The event was
part of the annual event sponsored by PTAs across the
country to increase family involvement in children's
education. At ASK, students and their families had the
opportunity to participate in a hands-on science lesson by
making "slim" in Danielle Trochiano's classroom,
engage in physical fun with PE Nikki Beam, and learn more
about the music program by listening to band practice led by
music teacher Matthew Carlozzi. Many families also read
books in the library. Others received information about
learning supports available for their children from district
administrators Donna Muro and Ruth Zulich.

ASK-PTA
promotes Healthy Lifestyles
The ASK PTA is
doing its best to make sure that all students, teachers, and
parents know that November was “Healthy Lifestyles Month.” In
addition to decorating the windows of the school with an
abundance of colorful pictures of fruits and vegetables made
by the children, they have also planned several activities
to encourage both healthy eating and exercise. Recently a
group of 21 students and adults braved the wind and rain to
meet at the High School track under the lights for an hour
of fitness and fun. The group walked 229 laps or 57.1 miles.
Congratulations to all participants and thank you to the ASK
PTA for reminding us that a healthy life is a happy life!

PTA hosts fun assembly with puppets/author
The ASK PTA
recently treated all of our students to a very special assembly
featuring children's author Gloria Smith-Zawaski, who read
excerpts of her book The Trunk in the Attic. The book is
the latest installment in the series “The Undercover Kids." Ms.
Zawaski was accompanied by two special guests - puppets
Katie and Jake, who are characters in the story. The puppets not
only acted out portions of the book, but they also answered
questions from the students. In addition to sponsoring the
wonderful assembly, the PTA purchased seven signed copies of the
book which were raffled off to one lucky class in each grade
level.

The Sept. 16,
2008
ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening of
the new upper grades playground. |
2008
Over the years,
the ASK PTA has done much to enhance our school. The resources
generated through PTA fundraisers are used to support student
assemblies and other school activities. The PTA also contributed
to the ASK playground, which opened in the fall of 2008. Thank you to all of
the district administrators and PTA members who made this new
playground possible!
