Middle School Summer Academies
Outdoor Leadership Academy: July 2-July 26
Culinary Arts Academy: July 2-July 12

Thanks to a grant from the Orange County Youth Bureau, Port Jervis Middle School is offering two FREE enrichment programs this summer: An Outdoor Leadership Academy & a Culinary Arts Academy. OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

Offered July 2-26. Open to Port Jervis students entering grades 7-9.
This marks the fourth year the Middle School is teaming up with the YMCA Greenkill Outdoor Education Center and the Orange County Youth Bureau to provide this fun and engaging summer learning opportunity. The four-week enrichment program will actively engage students in adventure-based experiences, team building exercises, technology and other challenging activities designed to enhance their leadership skills.
*Academy will not be held July 4.

Hands-on activities will include:
 • Outdoor Education Survival Strategies Project Adventure/Challenge Courses
 • Cooperative Games/Team Building  • Canoeing/Kayaking on the  Delaware River

CULINARY ARTS ACADEMY

Offered July 2-July 12. Open to Port Jervis students entering grades 8-9.
The Culinary Arts Academy is new this summer. Offered in cooperation with Sullivan County Community College and the Orange County Youth Bureau, the two-week
program runs from July 2-12. It is open to students entering grades 8-9 interested in cooking, baking, caking decorating, nutrition and learning more about food industry careers.  
*Academy will not be held July 4.       

Project-based activities will include:
   Culinary Education  Visits to local farms/restaurants  Introduction to preparing sauces and soups  Food Reviews and Critiques  Menu cost analysis

“We are excited about expanding the scope of the program so we can include more students this summer,” said Middle School Assistant Principal Brett Cancredi. “Thanks to a new partnership formed with SUNY Sullivan, which is known for its amazing culinary arts program, the Middle School is now able to provide students with an introduction to the skills needed to be successful in the food industry.”

Cancredi also noted that the popular summer enrichment programs are made possible by a grant from the Orange County Youth Bureau. “The Port Jervis School District is very grateful to the Orange County Youth Bureau for providing the funding that allows us to offer such great opportunities to our students at no charge”

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:  June 21
       Register Early - Space is limited!
Please return completed registration form to the PJ Middle School Main Office.
Outdoor Leadership Academy - Space is available for the first 50 Port Jervis students, entering grades 7-9, who register. 

Culinary Arts Academy - Space is available for the first 25 Port Jervis students, entering grades 8-9, who register.
