Friends of Section 9 Wrestling Coach of the Year
Friends
of Section 9 Wrestling recognized Port Jervis varsity wrestling
coach and athletic director Jared Kahmar by naming him coach of
the year. In his first two years as head coach, Kahmar's
team won the division title and the Eastern States Classic. This
year, the team took second place at the State tournament with
three finalists. This marked the team's second top 10 finish at
the State tournament.
Several varsity wrestlers also earned awards this year. Matt
Parlier was given the Sportsmanship Award at states. This was
voted on by his fellow wrestlers. Steven Butler was given the
Section 9 Officials Sportsmanship Award.

Will wrestle for Newberry College.
Matt Parlier -Placed second. Attending either Lock Haven
University or St. John Fisher.
JD Zitone - Placed second.
Will wrestle at University of Southern Maine.

Butler receives
full scholarship to Newberry College
Port Jervis
High School senior Steven Butler signed a letter of intent to
wrestle at Newberry College on a full scholarship.
Butler, who has a 95-15 career record, was awarded a $29,000
scholarship to represent
the South Carolina college in Division II competition.
The Red Raider football standout will also punt and kick for
Newberry's football team.
A two-time Section 9 189-pound champion, Butler placed second
last year at the Junior Nationals. He's also made an impressive
stand on the grid iron, making 15 of the 16 extra points and a
63-yard punt -the longest in Port Jervis football history.
Steven is the son of Gary and Diane Butler.

The Raiders
finished sixth at the 2008 New York State Championships with
three place winners. Port Jervis had the most wrestlers from
Section 9 competing in the tournament with four entries: Sean
Floor, Steven Butler, JD Zitone, and CJ Floor. The Raiders also
had the highest team finish of any Section 9 team. All four
athletes who competed at the state tournament qualified for
High School Nationals in Virginia Beach.

Congratulations to Section 9
wrestling champions Steven Butler and Sean Floor. After
winning the title in their respective weight classes, both
wrestlers went on to compete in the state tournament in Albany,
March 2-3, 2007.
