On June 22, the 191 members of the Port Jervis High School Class of 2012 came together to make their graduation a true and unique celebration.

After receiving their diplomas, all of the seniors celebrated their important milestone by participating in one final class act - a celebratory dance. Led by Grand Marshal Greg Rhoades, Senior Class President Rachael Mercilliott and class member Allastar Smith, the new graduates made their mark in alumni history by being the first class to ever break into dance at graduation. Much to pleasure of their teachers, administrators, family and other guests at Chase Field, the entire class took part in a coordinated dance to an upbeat mix of pop songs just prior to the traditional cap throw.

The spirited dance is in many ways a reflection of the uniqueness of this class and its members' plans for the future. Smith is volunteering in Australia next year with the Oceanic Leadership Team. Buzzelli, who is an aspiring oncologist, will be attending Cornell University. Others are looking at careers in the fields of nursing, accounting, industrial design and mechanical engineering.

In her class address, Buzzelli encouraged her classmates to "forge a new path, do something you couldn't or shouldn't have done in the past, but most importantly, BE YOURSELF."

Buzzelli said she's learned the past 12 years that two valuable things are necessary for success - support and determination. After thanking her teachers and family for their support, she said everyone has the other component for success within themselves...It's determination.

She noted, "Determination is derived from a true belief within one's self that you can do anything and I truly believe that of each and every person sitting in front of me right now - the Class of 2012 can do anything."
