Students in the Rotary Interact Club raised
$365 this year for the Port Jervis Educational Foundation. The
money was generated by four bake sales held during the school
year at Port Jervis High School.
The Port Jervis Education Foundation was formed by community
leaders in 2010 to support innovative educational programs and
extended learning opportunities for Port Jervis School District
students. The goal is to provide educational opportunities for
students beyond what is funded by the district budget. Donations
such as the one made by Interact are used to assist high school
students with PSAT/SAT/ACT fees and college course tuition, to
help students attend special programs outside of school
purchasing, and to purchase equipment and supplies for special
programs.
“The Rotary Interact Club has been a supporter of the
Educational Foundation since the beginning. We are extremely
grateful for this and their numerous other contributions,”
Foundation Vice President David Bavoso. “We hope to continue
this important and successful relationship for the benefit of
the Foundation.”
In addition to raising revenue for the Port Jervis Educational
Foundation, students in the Rotary Interact Club worked
diligently throughout the year to generate support for several
other worthy causes. This fall, Interact and the High School
DECA Club collected toiletry and bedding items for local
students and the local teen shelter - A Friend’s House.
During the holidays, Interact rang the Kettle Bell to raise
money for the Salvation Army and collected more than $3,000 for
students in need through its annual Pennies for Presents
program. Over the last few years, Interact Club has partnered
with the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce to collect and distribute
thousands of dollars in gift cards to less fortunate students in
the community.
